A Curated Journey for Traveling Patients
There are only a handful of clinics nationwide with Doctors experienced in precise, minimally invasive techniques and equipped with advanced 3D structural imaging, and perhaps most critically, the dedication to deliver unhurried, personalized care.
Patients travel both domestically and internationally to select Dr. Metaxas for their care. While many travel from areas lacking specialized foot and ankle surgeons, a significant number of our patients travel from major metropolitan hubs—specifically seeking our proprietary approach to structural repair, complex reconstructive second opinions, and our leading-edge minimally invasive procedures.
Concierge Service
San Mateo Podiatry Group’s concierge service is directed by our clinical team leads, who provide an elite level of guidance from the moment you reserve your consultation until you achieve your mobility goals.
We meticulously manage your entire experience. We ensure your prior medical records and imaging are secured and reviewed before you ever speak with the doctor. Our clinical lead will coordinate your prescriptions, post-operative visits, and local physical therapy. Your entire journey is engineered to ensure an optimal outcome and absolute peace of mind.
The Process
1. Initial Consultation
Contact our team to reserve your consultation via phone or secure video conference. Please specify that you are an out-of-town patient seeking to consult with Dr. Metaxas for foot and ankle surgery, allowing our concierge staff to immediately begin coordinating your specific clinical review.
2. Clinical Review & Secure Upload
To ensure your consultation is highly productive, we must review all relevant prior medical records, clinical photos, and imaging. Potential clients can securely upload these files directly to our clinical team.
* Please note: Uploading records does not establish a doctor-patient relationship with Dr. Metaxas.
3. Fee Structure & Transparency
Dr. Metaxas operates exclusively on a fee-for-service basis for his surgical expertise.
Depending on your health insurance benefits, health insurance may be utilized for separate surgery center and anesthesia fees. To provide you with absolute financial clarity, our team will conduct a thorough verification. We will request your Government Issued ID, Health Insurance Card, and a Credit Card on file.
4. Clinical Strategy Session
Following your consultation and comprehensive record review, Dr. Metaxas will determine if you are a candidate for his proprietary techniques. If you are accepted as a patient, our patient care coordinator will walk you through the exact procedure, your financial investment, the recovery timeline, and local logistics.
5. Reserving Your Surgery
Once you choose to proceed, we will formally reserve your operative date. Our team will manage all medical clearance protocols and consent forms. Surgical fees are due at the time of scheduling. You will then receive a comprehensive surgical packet detailing all preoperative and travel instructions.
6. Travel & Accommodations
Our clinic is a brief 10-minute drive from San Francisco International Airport (SFO), with accredited surgical centers located across San Francisco, the Peninsula, and Silicon Valley. To ensure a stress-free experience, domestic patients must arrive one day prior to surgery, and international patients two days prior.

7. Continuity of Care
Depending on the extent of your structural repair, you may return home 3 to 14 days post-operatively. Dr. Metaxas leverages a curated network of trusted physicians and surgeons who can perform basic, long-term follow-up care in your local community. If needed and available, we can coordinate with them to ensure your surgical outcomes are protected until you are fully healed.
