Oakland A’s pitcher Brett Anderson diagnosed with stress foot fracture

Stress fractures of the foot and ankle can be particularly challenging to treat as they represent a subtle, often missed injury. Navicular stress fractures are especially challenging, given the anatomy of the area and the high pressure the bone carries.

OAKLAND, Calif.-The Oakland Athletics announced today that left-handed starting pitcher Brett Anderson has been diagnosed with a navicular stress fracture of his right foot which will require further rest and time on the disabled list. He will be reevaluated in four weeks.

Anderson, 25, was placed on the 15-day disabled list May 1 with a sprained right ankle. He had posted a 1-4 record and 6.21 ERA in six games, five starts, this season, allowing 22 runs (20 earned), 32 hits and 15 walks while striking out 29 batters in 29.1 innings.

The Midland, Texas native underwent CT and bone scans yesterday, which revealed the stress fracture.
